Florentia Village China Shows Strong Business Growth

With Sales Exceeding RMB 11 billion in 2021

February 16, 2022, Shanghai, China — Leading Italian luxury designer outlet Florentia Village achieved outstanding sales performance in 2021, closing out a stellar 10-year anniversary. Founded by Italian real estate development group RDM, Florentia Village has become one of the top players in the outlet industry in China over the past 10 years thanks to its luxurious brand offerings and the authentic Italian retail experience.

Sales from Florentia Village’s seven outlets in China exceeded RMB 11 billion last year, representing an increase of 15% over 2020. Traffic to the outlets also reached more than 23 million, increasing 20% over the same period. Florentia Village Shanghai and Beijing-Tianjin showed noteworthy growth, while other outlets contributed to the sound overall sales performance. The Chengdu outlet showed particularly strong potential, with sales up 50% and foot traffic up 36% from the year prior.

With the Covid-19 pandemic transforming consumer behaviors, the outlet industry has been faced with both challenges and opportunities in navigating this new consumer landscape. Notably, investments in Florentia Village's online business grew in 2021, and with that, so too did its online sales performance. The company officially entered the e-commerce market in 2018 with the launch of FVSHOP.com. Florentia Village’s e-commerce platform has been designed to work in harmony with the company’s WeChat mini-program and loyalty program to further bolster and propagate online sales. This strategic approach led to 200% growth in 2021, with a 93% increase in registered users and an 83% increase in the total number of customers compared to the year prior. Further contributing to strong overall performance amidst the COVID-19 pandemic was the coming together of online offers and brick-and-mortar outlets.

Florentia Village also witnessed many milestone events in 2021, including the opening of Florentia Village Chongqing, the seventh outlet in China, as well as the completion of the Phase II expansion at Florentia Village Chengdu and Shanghai. Florentia Village Chengdu Phase II boasts approximately 30,000 square meters of retail space and 80 additional stores. The Shanghai project saw 110 new stores open alongside continued retail expansion; 27,000 additional square meters of retail space were added to the project, including a 2,000-square-meter, jungle-themed family entertainment center featuring three main areas and 16 themed entertainment programs. To-date, Florentia Village operates a total leased area of 500,000m2 comprising 1,200 total shops that include more than 300 well-known brands.

Florentia Village remains committed to promoting the highest level and standards of sustainability since its founding. Through national sustainability programs and a steadfast commitment to using only environmentally friendly building materials, Florentia Village continues to deliver on its promise as a conscious corporate citizen. On Earth Day in 2021, Florentia Village launched a new initiative involving B2B recycled polyester (rPET) specialist P.E.T. (Plastic Ecological Transformation) in a move to transform plastic bottle waste into textiles for the fashion industry. The newly opened Florentia Village Chongqing and Florentia Village Shanghai Phase II project were also designed leveraging the brand’s eco-friendly construction philosophy.

Renowned for its authentic Italian retail experience and portfolio of luxury brands, Florentia Village achieved remarkable results across its seven outlets in China during the 2022 Chinese New Year period. Notably, Florentia Village Guangzhou-Foshan broke its single-day sales records, while Florentia Village Chongqing and Chengdu saw an increase of 28% and 14% in sales, respectively. In addition, Florentia Village Wuhan enjoyed 12% growth in passenger traffic compared to 2021, further reflecting the steady recovery of China's consumer economy.

The year 2022 is shaping up to be another landmark in the company’s history, with Florentia Village Hong Kong, Wuhan and Chengdu celebrating their 5th anniversaries and a new outlet location in Xiamen set to open its doors to the public. Florentia Village remains committed to driving the China market forward, with overall sales forecast to reach RMB 14 billion, and foot traffic projected to reach 26 million. Florentia Village has always strived to deliver a genuine Italian retail experience enhanced by entertainment and other offerings, and will continue to be an innovator and leader in the outlet industry by focusing on the continued development of digital platforms and channels and creating an unparalleled omni-channel retail experience. With a strong history in the market, and bright future ahead, Florentia Village aims to become the leading international outlet brand in China.
